A Brief History

Martha McGuire formed Cathexis Consulting Inc. in 2001 “to do evaluations that make a difference!”

In 2003, Cathexis (which means ‘the positive channelling of energy’) grew, with Rochelle Zorzi and Melissa McGuire joining as partners. In 2006, the company moved to its present Toronto address to better accomodate its expansion. Cathexis continued to grow, and by 2009, the company was awarded its 100th project, and had a team of nine highly qualified professional consultants.

Martha, Rochelle, and Melissa are highly regarded by their evaluation peers in Canada. As with all the members of the Cathexis team, they are active members of the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) and have presented papers and facilitated a wide variety of workshops under its auspices. The Cathexis team has won several awards, including the CES-Ontario Chapter’s 25th Anniversary Award in recognition of the substantial benefits of the evaluation of Ottawa’s Inner City Health Project. In 2009, Martha was honoured with CES’s ‘Contribution to Evaluation Theory and Practice’ award.
